Make Thanksgiving Delicious, Organized, and Your Own
Thanksgiving is one of those holidays when food really becomes the center of everything. It's the planning, the shopping, the prep happening days ahead, the dishes everyone expects to see on the table, and the new recipes we decide to sneak into the menu.
Here you'll find my Thanksgiving recipes, cooking tips, menu ideas, and holiday meal-prep guides to help you put together a meal that works for your family and your kitchen. And you don't have to make everything the traditional way! I run things a little differently.
Thanksgiving in My Kitchen
As a Haitian-American chef, my Thanksgiving table has always had room for different traditions. I love the familiar Thanksgiving dishes I've grown up with in America, but you'll also find the bold seasonings, aromatics, citrus, peppers, and Haitian flavors that are part of how I naturally cook.
That might mean seasoning a turkey with epis, serving diri djon djon alongside familiar Thanksgiving sides, or giving a classic holiday dish a little more personality.
My Haitian-American Thanksgiving menu is a great example. I created a menu that brings Haitian dishes and American Thanksgiving traditions together, along with a three-day prep schedule to make cooking more manageable.

Start With the Turkey
If you're responsible for the turkey this year, don't let the size of the bird intimidate you. One of my favorite methods is spatchcocking, which helps the turkey cook more evenly and reduces roasting time. My Haitian-style version is seasoned with epis, citrus, herbs, and spices, and I save the backbone to help make the gravy.
It's also a great technique to learn because once you understand why it works, preparing a whole turkey becomes much less mysterious.
Don't Try to Cook Everything on Thanksgiving Day
This may be one of the most important things I can teach you about Thanksgiving cooking: prep ahead whenever you can. Think about your holiday meal the way a professional kitchen approaches service. Not everything needs to start from scratch when it's time to eat.
Make sauces and seasoning bases ahead. Wash and prep vegetables. Determine which casseroles can be assembled early. Figure out what needs oven space and when. And don't forget to leave time for that turkey to thaw. I've created Thanksgiving meal-prep guides to help you break the work into smaller jobs instead of trying to tackle an entire holiday dinner at once.

Build a Thanksgiving Menu That Works for You
Your Thanksgiving table doesn't have to look exactly like anyone else's. Start with the dishes your family actually wants to eat! Keep the traditions everyone would miss if they disappeared, then leave yourself some room to experiment.
Maybe that's a different seasoning for your turkey. Maybe you're looking for an easier side dish. Maybe your family combines foods from several cultures on one table. That's part of what makes Thanksgiving interesting to me!
Food traditions can be preserved while still giving us room to create new ones.
Need Help With Your Thanksgiving Menu?
Does a Thanksgiving dish give you trouble every year? Tell me about it!.
Maybe you want to make something easier, you're unsure about a cooking technique, or there's a Thanksgiving dish you'd love to see me experiment with. Don't send me your family's exact recipe. Just tell me the dish or idea and the problem you're trying to solve. I'll take it from there and see what I can develop in the Just Maika Cooking kitchen.
Tried One of These Thanksgiving Recipes?
Come back to the recipe and tell us how it went. Leave a comment and recipe rating, share what you changed, tell us what you served with it, or leave a cooking tip you discovered along the way. Your experience doesn't just help me. It can help the next home cook standing in their kitchen wondering the exact same thing you were. That's the kind of kitchen conversation I want to build here.
