Recipes, Stories, and Lessons From My Years in the Kitchen
Long before Just Maika Cooking, I was already cooking, experimenting, photographing my food, writing down what I learned, and sharing it online. So My Cooking Archives is where I'm bringing some of those recipes and stories back to life.
Many of these recipes originally appeared on my former food blog, Journey of a Foodie Fool, while others come from different stages of my life as a cook and chef. Instead of letting them disappear into an old hard drive or forgotten corner of the internet, I wanted to give them a home here. And trust me, looking back at some of those old food photos is an experience all by itself!
I've Always Loved Learning About Food
My passion for cooking has never just been about making something taste good. I want to know why it works! I love learning about ingredients, techniques, food science, culinary history, equipment, and the different ways people around the world approach cooking. I can learn one small thing about an ingredient and suddenly find myself going down an entire rabbit hole because now I need to know why.
That curiosity has followed me throughout my culinary career and into Just Maika Cooking. The more I learn, the more I want to experiment. And when I discover something useful, I want to talk about it and share it with someone else. That's really what this website has always been about!
Revisiting the Cook I Used to Be
Going through my old recipes has been interesting because I can see how much my cooking has changed. I understand some techniques differently now. I use ingredients differently. Equipment I didn't have back then. And plenty of little things I would explain much better today. But I don't want to erase the cook I was when I originally created these dishes. Those recipes are part of my journey!
So when I restore an older recipe, I'll tell you when it was originally published and share some of the story behind it. Then I'll revisit it as the cook I am today, adding clearer instructions, cooking tips, substitutions, storage and reheating information, and anything else I've learned that can make the recipe more useful for you. And sometimes I'll make changes. Sometimes I'll realize the original idea still works perfectly well. That's part of the fun!
Come Explore the Archives With Me
Think of My Cooking Archives as a peek into my culinary time capsule. You'll find old favorites, forgotten experiments, recipes inspired by places I've visited, dishes connected to different stages of my culinary career, and probably a few moments where I'll wonder, Why did I do it that way?
Most importantly, you'll get to see something I hope never changes: my love of learning about food and sharing what I discover! And I want you to be part of that conversation too.

If you try one of these recipes, leave a comment and tell me what you thought. If you've cooked something similar, share your experience.
And if something in the recipe makes you curious, ask me about it! Because talking about food is almost as much fun as eating it. So explore the recipes below and take a trip through my cooking archives. And don't ever forget to: Explore. Experiment. Taste.
